A Personal Story: How Gratitude Changed My Life
To give you some context on why I’m so passionate about this, let me share a bit about my journey. I’ve got over 20 years of experience in holistic wellness and transformational coaching, with a background in psychology, chiropractic care, and critical care paramedicine. But my real awakening came from a personal challenge in my early twenties.
Picture this: I was studying psychology at the University of Western Australia when a major betrayal from a boyfriend and a best friend sent me into a downward spiral. My days consisted of lying in bed, eating chocolate, and sipping wine. The only thing I looked forward to was The Oprah Winfrey Show at 1 PM. And then, one day, Oprah shared something that would change my life: the power of writing down five things you’re grateful for each day.
It was a slow process, but it worked. I began focusing on the smallest moments of gratitude, and over time, those small wins added up to a massive shift in my life. This practice became the foundation of the GGA™ Method.
Fast Forward: A Full-Circle Moment with Oprah
Years later, after leaving my career as a paramedic, I moved to the USA and had the wild idea of visiting Harpo Studios in Chicago, hoping to meet Oprah. While that didn’t pan out at the time, fate had something even better planned. In 2015, Oprah came to Perth, and I was there, front and centre with VIP tickets. I even had the opportunity to share my gratitude story with her, and she mentioned me and my journey during her talk. It was a surreal, full-circle moment that solidified the power of gratitude in my life.

Gratitude: It’s the foundation of abundance. When you operate from gratitude, you’re at the highest frequency possible. Think of it as hovering above life’s challenges in a helicopter, gaining a 360-degree perspective. You make decisions from love, not fear, and your whole life shifts.

Gains: This is the fuel for momentum. Too often, we dismiss our progress, focusing instead on how far we still have to go. But when you celebrate every micro win, you build a fire that turns into a bonfire of success. Progress over perfection is the name of the game.

Appreciation: This anchors you in the present. It’s about savouring the moment and recognising that what you have right now is enough. What you appreciate, appreciates in value. When you focus on the beauty of the journey, the destination becomes a delightful bonus.
