How Bella, Our Toy Poodle, Taught Us the Real Meaning of Alignment and Trust
By Katie Joy The Global Butterfly
Bringing a puppy into the family is always exciting, but sometimes, the journey to get there teaches you a few unexpected lessons. Let me introduce Bella Joy—our new Toy Poodle who has stolen our hearts. But getting to Bella wasn’t as straightforward as you might think, and what started as “Puppy Love” became a journey in trust, alignment, and staying true to my values.
In the spirit of sharing openly and honestly, I want to walk you through our story. For anyone who’s ever had to let go of something you thought you wanted—or found yourself questioning your instincts—this one’s for you.
When Your Heart’s Set… But Life Has Other Plans
It all began with a very different puppy. My son and I had our hearts set on bringing home a male miniature poodle who we’d already affectionately called “Benny.” We’d shopped for all the essentials, rearranged our schedules, and were just about to pick him up when something started to feel… off.
I knew I needed to ask a few final questions—just some clarifications for peace of mind. So I called the breeder to get a bit more information. But instead of reassuring answers, what followed was a series of evasive responses that left me with even more questions. The biggest red flag? She admitted she’d been dishonest with the original breeder to get Benny, telling them he’d be a pet when she’d intended to use him for breeding.
In that moment, I realised this wasn’t the alignment I’d hoped for. Integrity, honesty, and transparency are non-negotiables for me, and if someone’s willing to bend the truth to get what they want, how could I trust them to be forthright with me?
The Power of Letting Go (Even When It’s Hard)
As tough as it was, I made the decision to walk away from Benny. My son and I had to sit with that disappointment—a sense of loss over something we’d already welcomed in our hearts. It was like a gentle reminder from life: hold your vision, but don’t be attached to the outcome.
We went to see the movie Runt that day to lift our spirits. In a way, it was the perfect story for us—a tale about integrity, persistence, and trusting that the right things will come in their own time. Watching that, I felt the reassurance I needed. Sometimes, letting go of what doesn’t feel right opens up the space for what truly aligns.
Enter Bella Joy: Synchronicity in Action
The very next morning, as if on cue, my mum popped by with a fresh batch of eggs from her chooks. (For my overseas friends, that’s Aussie for “chickens!”) When I told her about the situation, she offered to help us find the right puppy, and together, we came across a local breeder with a litter of Toy Poodles just 10 minutes away.
It all felt too perfectly timed. The breeder was transparent, welcoming, and open about the puppies’ history, health, and care. Within an hour, my son and I were meeting a sweet little female named Bella—and it was love at first sight. Bella was calm, joyful, and everything we could have dreamed of in a puppy. This time, it was clear: she was the one.
Staying True to Your Values Brings Unexpected Joy
Walking away from Benny taught me that when you stay true to your values, even if it feels like you’re letting go of something special, you’re actually paving the way for something far better suited to you. Bella’s arrival was a reminder that we don’t have to compromise on transparency or integrity to get what we want. Instead, when we live in alignment, we attract what’s right for us naturally.
In life and business, the principles of alignment, honesty, and transparency are essential. Holding to these principles helped me make the right decision, even when emotions were involved. And if you’ve ever been in a similar situation—whether in your personal life or business—know that you’re allowed to take the scenic route if it means staying true to yourself.
Why Living with Alignment Leads to the Right Outcomes
Since Bella joined our family, I’ve felt such peace, knowing that she came to us in exactly the right way. It’s reminded me that trusting the process and keeping our eyes on our values doesn’t mean letting go of our dreams. In fact, it means something even better will arrive.
So here’s the lesson I want to share with you: Trust yourself. When those red flags pop up, pay attention, ask questions, and know that you don’t have to settle. Life has a way of bringing us exactly what’s aligned with our values, vision, and goals—even if it comes in unexpected ways.
